Differences between LPG & LNG & CNG trailer

In the field of energy transportation, LPG trailers, LNG trailers and CNG trailers are all common transportation tools, and there are many significant differences between them.

Let’s first look at LPG, or liquefied petroleum gas, whose main components are propane and butane. The boiling point of LPG is relatively high, usually around -42°C, and the trailer tank pressure is generally several atmospheres. It is often used for short-distance transportation and supply to small users, such as small gas filling stations or industrial users.

LNG is liquefied natural gas, the main component of which is methane. Its boiling point is very low, about -162°C, and the tank needs to withstand higher pressure to keep the natural gas in a liquefied state. LNG has a relatively high energy density and is more suitable for long-distance transportation and large-scale energy supply, such as urban gas supply. In terms of environmental performance, LNG is relatively cleaner and produces fewer pollutants after combustion.

CNG is compressed natural gas. Unlike the previous two, it is mainly stored in gaseous form. The storage pressure of CNG is relatively high, usually around 200 atmospheres. CNG trailers have certain advantages in terms of cost, and the construction of their gas stations is relatively simple. In terms of application, CNG trailers are suitable for medium and short-distance transportation and energy supply in some specific fields.

From the perspective of physical properties, LPG and LNG are in liquid form, while CNG is in gaseous form, which leads to obvious differences in their storage conditions. The tank design and supporting equipment of LPG trailers and LNG trailers are different, and LNG trailers require more complete insulation and cold preservation measures.

In terms of safety, all three have strict safety standards and specifications. LPG is relatively active and has certain safety risks under certain conditions, but the risks are controllable under compliant operations; LNG is relatively stable, but it may also leak in extreme cases; CNG is in high-pressure gas state, so attention should also be paid to its safety.

In terms of vehicle structure, CNG trailers are also different from LPG and LNG trailers, and must be able to adapt to the requirements of high-pressure storage.

From a cost perspective, LPG prices fluctuate greatly and are significantly affected by factors such as oil prices; LNG prices are affected by the natural gas market; and the cost of CNG is relatively stable.

When choosing to use, transportation companies and users need to comprehensively consider local energy supply conditions, policies and regulations, market demand, transportation distance and other factors.

In short, LPG trailers, LNG trailers and CNG trailers are different in terms of fuel properties, physical properties, safety, application areas, environmental performance, cost, etc. In practical applications, it is necessary to carefully weigh the specific situation to achieve the best transportation effect and economic benefits. At the same time, no matter which trailer is chosen, safety regulations and operating procedures must be strictly followed to ensure transportation safety. With the continuous development of energy technology, these three trailers will continue to play an important role in the field of energy transportation and continue to improve and perfect.
